It only takes One Incidence to Destroy A Childs Confidence

It’s widely accepted and supported by research that children are likely to experience their first child on child attack at school. The challenge is not whether your child will have a violent encounter, but how you deal with it. Of course, violence solves very little and is never a solution, however I would urge parents concerned with the safety of their child to consider self defence as the solution.

Parents also need to consider the long term affects of the damage caused by an attack and ask themselves what they could have done, if anything, to prevent it; or at least what could have been done to minimise injury.

As a man of faith, I have strong views on violence and aggressive behaviour; I definitely do not endorse violence of any kind. However, we must consider the physical impact and wake up to the possibilities that we should be preparing ourselves, and our children to defend themselves. Is it careless as a parent not too?

Kids Wing Chun Academy is dedicated to helping children and parents protect themselves against physical attack using traditional Chinese Wing Chun Kung Fu. The KWCA goal is to build the confidence and skills necessary to effectively deal with confrontation of any kind. Humility, compassion, respect are fundamental values of the Kids Wing Chun Academy.

Should Children Learn a Martial Art to Defend Themselves

Children start to encounter aggression from other children of a physical nature from School Bullyaround 5 years old. These encounters are fairly insignificant initially, but increase in significance as children get older and stronger.

Department of Education figures from 2011 showed an average of 13 permanent exclusions per day, prompting an average of 878 children taken out of class each day for abuse or assault on fellow pupils or teachers.

Of course, violence is not a solution, but the question remains; should our children be learning how to defend themselves from a violent attack? One consideration is the amount of physical injury sustained by the victim of an attack, and whether these injuries could be prevented or minimised if the victim would have been able to defend themselves effectively.

A survey by BeatBullying identified some of the effects of child-on-child violence to include eating disorders, self harm, truancy, depression, and the use of violence against other children. The survey further identified the most common location for assault as being school, with over 50% of those surveyed had only experienced a single occurrence of physical violence, the effect of even a single attack .

As a parent I believe the risk of being negatively affected both short and long term is too high a price to pay for being the victim of a violent attack. I have witnessed some appalling injuries which could have been prevented, without causing much harm to the attacker in self defence. Parents can make their own decisions as to how their child should deal with a potential attack, however, learning an effective martial art as a self defence is a real option.

Benefits Of a Training Partner

Training Partners Are a Key Element

Wing Chun is widely accepted by those in the know as one of the most effective fighting systems on the planet, however training the right techniques in the right way enable the practitioner to excel and internalise the art. There are many reasons why Wing Chun is so effective, however, training each limb to have a mind of it’s own adds to it’s effectiveness. How you train, as well as what you train has a direct impact on skill levels of the techniques a practitioner is trying to execute. There are a number of reasons for this however today I will focus on one of them, the training partner.

Many aspects of Wing Chun need to be trained in two’s and that means working with a training partner. Many of the advanced elements of Wing Chun need to be trained with a similarly skilled partner to get the most out of what is being trained, however regardless of each partner’s skill level, each partner will improve if concentrating on the KEY elements of what is being trained.

It is important to train with a variety of sizes, strengths, and personalities. Some people are very passive whilst others are more forceful or aggressive in nature. Of course, some are stronger and fitter than others, regardless though, it is important to find the positive, and experience all.

A training partner could be a friend or relative. Your best friend at school, an old friend from college. A brother, sister, or cousin; daughter and mother, father and son; grand parents and grand children. It could be someone close to you that you feel could benefit from having more confidence or just simply something great to share with someone who means a lot to you.

Consider what you want to achieve, and how you are going to achieve it; consider finding a training partner to achieve it with, and you will greatly increase your speed of progression.

Now is a great time to learn Wing Chun

With the economy in turmoil and the outlook for the short future driving negative feelings, it’s no surprise tempers are short. From an increase in angry drivers to an angry retaliation kick on a football pitch, it’s important to feel that should encounters go in the wrong direction, your training is there to help.

Training the right material in the right way helps to manage anger and fear, and drives confidence. Knowing that you are prepared for potential encounters can change the way you see and interact with others, and life’s challenges.

Challenge yourself to be better than you are.
